1. Vice Type - BAC Systems offers Engineer's Vices, Woodworking Vices and, Offset Vices. BAC sources vices from the Australia-Made Dawn range. The quality of a Dawn Vice complements the BAC range of modular workbenches. Engineer's Vices start at 75mm, followed by 100mm, 125mm and 150mm options. Offset vices come in similar sizes, but woodworking vices are available in 175mm and 225mm sizes.
2. Setting up a workbench with consideration for Vice usage - this point includes obvious factors, such as placing a vice on the side of the workbench that best suits how you work, but it also includes less obvious factors, such as ensuring you have enough weight in your workbench. In some scenarios, especially in the context of mobile workbenches, certain operations in a vice may cause tipping or instability in the workbench. Thankfully, adding more weight to the workbench will quickly fix this problem (or anchoring a fixed workbench). This additional weight resists the torques and impact loads that aggressive works on materials held in a vice my cause.
It is simple to add weight to a workbench - introduce a storage cabinet or two add both weight and structure. You will be pleased with the additional storage space, and the additional weight will mean that heavy vice-work does not result in the wokbench being upset.
