Aurizon Updates with BAC Equipment for Depot Refurbishment

Aurizon is well known as Australia’s largest rail freight operator, specialising in bulk commodity rail transfers between Queensland’s resource hubs and its network of mid-state ports. Aurizon operates and maintains its own rail network, having many maintenance facilities and depots throughout QLD. Recently, Aurizon contacted BAC Systems to assist with the refurbishment of one of its depots in Rockhampton.

The BAC Technical Sales team visited the depot site and surveyed multiple stores, including a maintenance store and an electrician’s store. These stores had accumulated more equipment than the potential capacity of the rooms and entering the rooms involved climbing over and around excess tools and consumables. Armed with room measurements and details of the inventory, the BAC Technical Sales team prepared a proposal that included heavy duty shelving with an individual shelf capacity of 250kg, industrial tool storage drawers with internal partitions, large cable spool storage drawers that tidily store and dispense heavy gauge electrical cable, and industrial workbenches in the central maintenance store.

The BAC workshop and storage equipment provided was chosen for its ability to compress the storage footprint without affecting the productivity of each room. With one of the store rooms being quite small, BAC’s Drawers were the obvious solution. The main store has a step along one wall, but the BAC M-Series drawers made this step a handy storage location, with ready access, and non-slip storage for thousands of tools.
